I think the music you like and the songs you enjoy really show someone else your true soul more than anything else. You can tell quite a bit about a person based on the type of music they listen to. Just be careful, sometimes you may be wrong...
Anyway, I'm going to list my favorite musical inspirations of all time and then maybe a couple of my favorite songs from each....And perhaps a back story. We shall see.....I shall try and limit it to 10 bands. Also, I will try and add a new band each week.
Week ONE:
7/19/11
1. Train
Train will always come first. Train has been around since....since I was old enough to truly appreciate music. I grew up with Train. Grade school, middle school, high school, college....Train has always been strong and has been there. Sure, I have strayed to other bands and temporarilly renamed other bands as my "new favorite of all time EVER" but Train will always be like...the "big brother" that will always actually be my favorite. Why? Trust. Familiarity. Sense. Love. Home. I will always love train. I have seen them in concert once and just got tickets to see them again this summer! Can't wait :-) I love their new album, but have a strange connection with a lot of their older albums.
I'd have to say...although it is drastically hard to choose, I'd say my favorite song is, "Drops of Jupiter". I remember being in my junior year of high school and my wacked out Sociology teacher gave us an assignment to bring in an mp3 of our favorite song. When asked at the time to say why it was our favorite song, in front of the whole class, the only response I could come up with was, "I know exactly what he is feeling."

WEEK TWO: 7/26/11
So the rest of these probably won't be in "most favorite" order. I knew Train was my most favorite, but after that, they are all pretty equal to me. It's hard to say what is my favorite because I go through phases where one week one will be my entire world, and the next month I don't play them for a second and skip through all their tracks when they come up on iTunes.
But, after much consideration, I think I pick "Blue October" to be next, considering that they are mentioned a lot in this blog.
Its funny that I choose them next- because I don't love or even like all of their songs. But the songs I do like, I love.
Blue October gets what I think, sometimes. They understand what I have been through with past relationships. They are there for me on my days where its raining and my world is caving in around me and I don't want to talk to anyone and I can just put my earphones in and make myself not be able to hear anything but Blue October. So I guess thats why I choose them to be second on this list. Train was my happy-go-to music, they understand and write my happy soundtrack of my life. Blue October composes the darker soundtrack. And I will always love them for that.
As for my favorite song....This, is very hard. Even harder to pick than out of Train's selection. Each one my favorites from BO are equally as meaningful to me and mean something different, call to me in a different way. I guess if I had to pick, "Congratulations" has been my favorite for the longest but I certainly have many other favorites, including:

- Picking up the Pieces
Probably my favorite Love Song :) Wedding song maybe? Who knows....

WEEK THREE 8/3/11
Ahh so this week is a little late- but yesterday doesn't count because I got up early, flew two hours, unpacked (like one thing, but still), and had a lot of things to do. So yeah.
However, I have it ready today!
These guys......are.....spectacular. Their lyrics are so intricately written and beautifully selected, combined with soft and passionate melodies that are heavenly to the ears, song after song. Most of their songs are very happy, and are bound to put you in a good mood- while others can be very melancholy, but are so meaningful nonetheless. The songs are all so different from each other and speak in a special way to the listener. They tell a story of love, hate, humanity, survival and life.
Favorite Songs include almost their entire first album:

WEEK FOUR: 8/9/11
ARTIST: P!NK
This is actually a pretty funny choice and quite unexpected. She wasn't even on my list (in my mind) when I originally thought of making this post. But here she is, making number four.
I choose her because she is a big part of my growth & Development as a pre-teen. Just as train has always been there since I can remember, Pink has been there for quite the long amount of years as well. I first remember jamming out to her CD when I was probably no older than 12, with my best friend. I had the lyrics (way over my head) memorized. I listen to them now and think......I was listening to that? Ha! No wonder I'm strange.
But no really- P!nk stands for attitude in women. She teaches us to stand up for ourselves, to protect ourselves as women, to show the men who's boss, to not take shit, to get out there and get what we want and get it done. Don't stand on the sidelines. Don't worry about how pretty or popular you are. Don't worry how many people like you. Don't worry how blonde your hair is or how many boys like you. She reminds growing girls that thats not what life is all about, that none of that matters and its OK to be different. Its okay to be YOU, which is so important , in my opinion, for girls to be listening to. P!nk isn't afraid to take chances/risks in her music and she tells it like it is, and is honest and doesn't really care how much crap she gets for it. And I will always love her music for that about her. And I will let my kids one day listen to her, as much as they want. She does have some lyrics that are heavy and with some language but they are real. They are honest. They are about real life situations and problems that many girls around the world are going through too. I guess thats the difference between her and some random rapper that finds it "talent" to just curse through an entire song with autotune.

WEEK FIVE 8/23/11
MAROON 5
It's about time I put these guys up! I do love Maroon 5, I have since their first album came out in 2002, back in the day I still took the bus to high school and walked home a mile from the station and Maroon 5 was in my earbuds keeping me company. Loved them ever since!
I just got to see them in concert last Monday (AMAZING!) which I have been waiting for since high school, but it was just never a good time to go.
Maroon 5 is my.....relationship band, so to speak. I don't know who exactly writes their lyrics, but whoever it is, has been madly in love (MADLY) and has been very bloody heartbroken. Like, heart ripped out while its still beating kind of heartbroken. Maroon 5 sings from adorable, unique love songs like "She will be loved" to my-relationship-sucks kind of songs like "Better that we break". And they have it all down perfectly. "Songs about Jane" (their first) was a calmer (ish) album catered more towards being in love. "It won't be soon before long" Is a pretty funny mix of being in love/breaking up with love/ and finding love again, or rather- getting back together with the same love. Their newest, "Hands all Over" is a fantastic mix of pretty much just being single and jumping from fling to fling, doing whatever the heck you want, whenever you want, being in lust, and having a grand time. Gotta love Maroon 5.
And Adam Levine....well, he is just to die for. He is lovely. He is down to earth and very....normal! He is a "real" person, not swept in by the celebrity nonsense. (at least, from what I can tell from reading his tweets.....I hope to one day actually meet him).
So, my favorite song? As always, its really hard to choose. So I'll pick two from different categories. From their selection of radio hits, I pick "Won't Go Home without You", and from their non-radio selection, I pick "How" which is pretty moving.

WEEK SIX: 9/6/11
Musicality: Evanescence
So this is also a rather unexpected choice. Evanescence goes pretty far back with me, all the way from freshman or sophomore year in high school. Like with Blue October, they are there and are playing when I'm having a bad day or a darker day. They represent my inner lyrical beauty and sound, I think. I think the heavy rock behind Amy Lee's Gorgeous voice is just....magical. It's very easy to get lost in. If I were to be a lead singer in any band, this would be the exact type of music I would probably be singing. If I were a girl thrown into the fame industry, this is who I would want to be.
So...my favorite part!
Favorite song: This is definitely hard, (It ALWAYS IS!!), but I'm going to definitely have to choose two, my radio favorite and my hidden favorite. Radio favorite: "My Immortal". That was probably the song that first drew me into the band, the song i love to sing and the song that, even though it was way overplayed on the radio, still means a lot to me. Favorite hidden song? " Tough Choice, but most likely "Taking over me". Great sounds, great rock, and GREAT lyrics, and really means a lot to me.

Haha! Calling all Angels is amazing and I love it but I wouldn't call it a favorite....same for MV. Its a great song but I dont really have a *connection* with that one. As for Marry me, I liked it when it was first released with the album but once it hit the radio and went beserk on overplay, it became nauseating to hear so much...but its a nice song, just never a favorite! Thanks for the comment!!! :D
No . way. 18th floor balcony is MY favorite love song and might be my wedding song! ;) lol! Also, have you heard sound of pulling heaven down, and you make me smile? those are two of my favorites. And Graceful dancing.
Hahah yes its a good song! I thought you were going with Marry me! lol. Yes Ive heard those other two, I like them but definitely not favorites. I like most of their songs tho :-)
